Kary Deng is excited and honored to serve as the Student Board Representative for the 2026–27 school year.
As a current senior at James Logan High School and having been a student in the New Haven Unified School District since Kindergarten, Kary is passionate about ensuring that student voices are heard and represented in decisions that shape their education and school communities. Through her involvement in student leadership, Speech and Debate, community service, journalism, and the Union City Youth Commission, she has developed a strong commitment to advocacy and public service.
As Chair of the Union City Youth Commission, Kary works alongside fellow youth commissioners and local leaders to address issues affecting young people in the community. She has also dedicated hundreds of hours to community service, including tutoring elementary students, supporting individuals with special needs at Friends of Children with Special Needs, and volunteering with Second Harvest Food Bank of Silicon Valley.
At James Logan, Kary serves as a Speech and Debate captain and has competed nationally, while also mentoring younger students.
Kary is grateful for the opportunity to represent students across the New Haven Unified School District and looks forward to listening and amplifying the voices of students while working alongside the Board, district staff, and community to help make NHUSD an even stronger community for every student.
