This is the time of year when we celebrate the accomplishments of our employees and students, welcome new employees to the district, and recognize those retiring or moving on to new roles.
At our school board meeting on Tuesday night, our board appointed several people to administrative positions in our district for the 2026-27 school year.

Congratulations to our new employees and current employees in new roles!
At our board meeting on Tuesday, we authorized staff to begin a renaming process for Cesar Chavez Middle School. The first part of the process will be to establish a committee that will solicit potential names, vet them, and make recommendations to our school board for approval. As part of Strategic Goal 2, Accessible and Equitable Support for Students, a group of educators has participated in the New Haven Promise Equity Leader Cohort and the Culturally Responsive Workgroup, led by Director of Equity, Access, and Achievement Zetha Nobles. This workgroup is wrapping up a special state-funded initiative focused on fairness and inclusion in our schools. We want to recognize these educators who have been working behind the scenes to better support all students. Through this effort, teachers and staff have collaborated to improve how lessons are taught, making them more engaging, relevant, and respectful of students’ diverse backgrounds and experiences. They have also worked to identify and remove barriers so that every student has the opportunity to succeed. The result is a growing set of practical strategies and resources that are already being used in classrooms across the district. This work is an important part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring every student feels valued, supported, and challenged to do their best. Last weekend, James Logan High School hosted the California Speech and Debate Championship Tournament. Hosting this event was a major undertaking with over 2,000 students competing from 180 schools. It would not have been possible without the hard work of the Logan Speech and Debate teacher, Justin Kurup, and the many volunteers who helped him out. Logan High School emerged as the top public school in California and took third place overall in the tournament. Many of our students did very well, and I’d like to congratulate all of them:
