Dear New Haven Families,
It may be hard to believe, but this past week marked the start of the spring trimester for our elementary and middle schools. With less than a third of the school year remaining, now is a great time to reinforce the importance of regular school attendance and its impact on student success. Each day of instruction builds on the last, and consistent attendance helps ensure that students remain engaged, supported, and prepared for new learning. In the coming weeks, students will participate in state and local assessments that provide valuable information about their progress and help guide instruction. Being at school every day is the best way for students to be prepared to demonstrate what they’ve learned and show what they are truly capable of.
This is also the time of year when the winter high school sports season begins to wind down, and championship events get underway. I am continually impressed with our student-athletes and their ability to perform at high levels while also meeting the academic expectations required to compete. Their success reflects their motivation, their families’ support, and the dedication of their coaches and school staff. This season, all Logan High winter sports teams qualified for the North Coast Section (NCS) championships. Our girls’ basketball team started things off with an exciting win over American High School on Wednesday night and will play the #3 seed, Justin Siena High School, on Saturday. Several of our other teams are also beginning their championship competitions.
Our wrestling program at James Logan High School has a long legacy of excellence, one I was aware of even when I wrestled in the 1980s. That tradition continues today, with strong representation from both our boys’ and girls’ teams. Logan is also hosting the NCS wrestling championships this Friday and Saturday. If you have the opportunity, I encourage you to come out and support our student-athletes.

Estimadas familias de New Haven:
Puede ser difícil de creer, pero la semana pasada marcó el inicio del trimestre de primavera para nuestras escuelas primarias y secundarias. Con menos de un tercio del año escolar restante, este es un excelente momento para reforzar la importancia de la asistencia regular a la escuela y su impacto en el éxito estudiantil. Cada día de instrucción se basa en el anterior, y la asistencia constante ayuda a garantizar que los estudiantes permanezcan comprometidos, apoyados y preparados para el nuevo aprendizaje. En las próximas semanas, los estudiantes participarán en evaluaciones estatales y locales que proporcionan información valiosa sobre su progreso y ayudan a orientar la instrucción.
