At their last meeting, the Board passed a resolution recognizing February as Black History Month. You can read the resolution by clicking here. I invite our families to join us in celebrating the rich history, culture, and enduring contributions of Black Americans. Across our schools, students and staff will engage in learning that uplifts Black voices, past and present, and deepens our shared commitment to dignity and belonging for all. We are grateful for our collaborative partnership with parents through the District African American Advisory (D3A), whose members help us honor the resilience, leadership, creativity, and scholarship of Black Americans that have shaped our nation and continue to strengthen our communities and schools. Families interested in learning more about D3A are invited to attend the next virtual meeting on Monday, February 2, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Information about how to attend is shared through the district’s usual communication channels.
On Tuesday, February 3, we will host the first of our two annual Celebrating Schools events. During these events, schools present updates to the Board of Education and the community. Next Tuesday’s meeting will be held in the James Logan High School Performing Arts Center beginning at 6:00 p.m. Schools featured in this first event include Conley-Caraballo High School, Cesar Chavez Middle School, New Haven Academy, and Guy Emanuele, Hillview Crest, and Searles Elementary Schools. All are welcome to attend.
