Dear New Haven Families,
Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month begins today. Nearly half of our students identify as Asian American or Pacific Islander, and our district would not be what it is without the contributions of our AAPI students, families, and staff. To honor AAPI Heritage Month, our Board of Education passed a resolution at its last meeting recognizing and celebrating our AAPI community. You can find that resolution here: RESOLUTION. May is also a time to recognize the contributions of all our employees. The month begins today, May 1, with School Principals’ Day and School Lunch Hero Day. Our district team includes teachers and other certificated staff, classified staff, and management staff, all of whom play vital roles in creating the environments that help students succeed. At the April 21 board meeting, our Board of Education recognized the hard work and dedication of our employees through the following resolution: RESOLUTION. Our district is a special place because of the commitment our staff members show to students and families each day. If a staff member has made a positive impact on your student, I encourage you to thank them during the month of May.
The accomplishments of our employees will continue to be celebrated throughout May and at our upcoming Cheers for the Years event on May 14. During this event, we honor our Employees of the Year and our retirees.
We hope to see you at New Haven Day tomorrow (5/2). As always, the event will feature student performances from across our schools, community partner booths, and food trucks. The New Haven Schools Foundation Fun Run begins at 8:00 a.m. and is a great way to start the day.
The New Haven Schools Foundation has announced the 2026 grant awards, funding 59 innovative projects totaling $93,518.68, made possible through the Pathways to Success gala and generous community support. We are grateful to all who submitted proposals, and we invite the community to view the full list of funded projects on the NHSF website and join us in celebrating our educators’ creativity and dedication.
Last year, I sent a feedback form to the NHUSD community asking how you think I am doing in my role as Superintendent. I received many thoughtful and helpful responses. I am sharing the form again this year and would greatly appreciate your feedback. If you have time, please complete the Superintendent Feedback Form. The form will remain open through Friday, May 22.

Hoy comienza el Mes de la Herencia Asiático-Americana y de las Islas del Pacífico (AAPI). Casi la mitad de nuestros estudiantes se identifican como asiático-americanos o de las islas del Pacífico y nuestro distrito no sería lo que es sin las contribuciones de nuestros estudiantes, familias y personal AAPI.
