Dear NHUSD Families,
Happy Cinco de Mayo! California started celebrating Cinco de Mayo in the mid-19th century to show solidarity with Mexico against the French government. Since that time, Cinco de Mayo has become a significant day to celebrate Mexican identity and heritage. A large percentage of our students and families are of Mexican descent, and we, as a district, recognize and celebrate your heritage with you.
It is hard to believe that we only have three weeks of school left before the beginning of our summer recess. This is always an exciting time, but it can also be stressful for students and families. Please do what you can to help your students enjoy this time while helping them manage the stress that comes along with it.
The week of May 1-5 has been Certificated Employee Appreciation Week. If you haven’t done so already, please reach out to a certificated employee (teacher, counselor, psychologist, nurse, etc.) who has made a difference for you and/or your student(s) and thank them. Next week is Classified Employee Appreciation Week. Our classified employees are the ones who help keep our schools running so that our teachers can teach and our students can learn such as custodians, administrative assistants, noon-supervisors, and others. Please let them know you appreciate their support as well. Thank you!

Estimadas familias del NHUSD,
¡Feliz Cinco de Mayo! California comenzó a celebrar el Cinco de Mayo a mediados del siglo 19 para mostrar solidaridad con México en contra del gobierno francés. Desde entonces, Cinco de Mayo se ha convertido en un día importante para celebrar la identidad y herencia mexicana. Un gran porcentaje de nuestros estudiantes y familias son de ascendencia mexicana, y nosotros, como distrito, reconocemos y celebramos su herencia con ustedes.
Es difícil creer que sólo nos quedan tres semanas de clases antes de iniciar las vacaciones de verano. Esta es siempre una época emocionante, pero también puede ser estresante para los estudiantes y sus familias. Por favor, haga lo que pueda para ayudar a sus hijos a disfrutar de este tiempo mientras los ayuda a manejar el estrés.
La semana del 1 al 5 de mayo es la semana de agradecimiento a los empleados certificados. Si usted no lo ha hecho ya, por favor contacte a un empleado certificado ( maestro, consejero, psicólogo, enfermera, etc.) que ha hecho una diferencia para usted y/o su(s) hijo(s) y déle las gracias. La próxima semana es la Semana de Agradecimiento a los Empleados Clasificados. Nuestros empleados clasificados son los que ayudan a mantener nuestras escuelas funcionando para que nuestros maestros puedan enseñar y nuestros estudiantes puedan aprender, como por ejemplo los conserjes, asistentes administrativos, supervisores de mediodía y otros. Por favor, dígales que usted aprecia su apoyo también. Gracias a todos.
