Dear NHUSD Families,
Tuesday, November 11, is Veterans Day, and our district is closed in observance of this holiday. As we observe Veterans Day, we take time to honor and thank the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Their dedication, courage, and sacrifice have helped protect the freedoms and opportunities we enjoy today. We encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on the contributions of our veterans and to express appreciation for their service to our nation.
We have a partnership with the Youth Cinema Project (YCP). This program teaches students language arts standards through the medium of filmmaking. We launched this program with fifth-grade students at Searles Elementary School during the 2024-25 school year, and this year we have expanded it as an afterschool enrichment program at both middle schools. Initial results from the 2024-25 academic year indicate that our students are learning language arts more comprehensively when participating in this program, which is exciting. On November 20, you can knock out some holiday shopping and support the New Haven Schools Foundation at the Columbia Store. Here is more information about this event: Shop for Education.

El martes 11 de noviembre es el Día de los Veteranos y nuestro distrito permanecerá cerrado en conmemoración de esta festividad. Al celebrar el Día de los Veteranos, dedicamos un tiempo a honrar y agradecer a los hombres y mujeres que han servido en las Fuerzas Armadas de los Estados Unidos. Su dedicación, valentía y sacrificio han ayudado a proteger las libertades y oportunidades de las que disfrutamos hoy en día. Los animo a que dediquen un momento para reflexionar sobre las contribuciones de nuestros veteranos y a expresar su agradecimiento por su servicio a nuestra nación.
Estamos colaborando con el programa Youth Cinema Project (YCP). Este programa enseña a los estudiantes los estándares de lenguaje y literatura a través del cine.
