Dear NHUSD Families,
We are fortunate to have many staff members who began their journeys in our district as students and later returned to serve as employees. Our district is truly a special place, one that inspires our students to come back and give back.
I recently had the pleasure of meeting with one of these staff members, Wini Mendoza, a teacher at Delaine Eastin Elementary School, to record a new “40 Questions With…” episode. You can watch the episode here.
We know that many of our staff and families are planning vacations and other events for the upcoming year, and I have good news to share: we have posted a draft of our 2026-27 school calendar on our website. You can find it here. We are finalizing the details before submitting it to our school board for approval, but the start and end dates, as well as the holidays, are now set.
If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, join us in celebrating Filipino American History Month. NHUSD’s Pilipino American Society for Education (PASE) and the Filipino American National Historical Society (FANHS) are hosting a community festival this Saturday, October 25, at Itliong-Vera Cruz Middle School. The celebration runs from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and will feature our keynote speaker, Johnny Itliong — son of Larry Itliong! There will also be performances, food vendors, local businesses, community organizations, kids’ activities, music, and more. Please join us in celebration — everyone is welcome.
We have learned that ICE and Border Patrol agents plan to increase enforcement activities in the greater San Francisco Bay Area. I sent a message to families and staff yesterday about the protocols and procedures in place to respond to any activity on or near our campuses, as well as the resources we have for families. Please contact your school office if you have questions or need assistance.

Estimadas familias del NHUSD:
Tenemos la suerte de contar con muchos miembros del personal que iniciaron su trayectoria en nuestro distrito como estudiantes y más tarde regresaron para trabajar como empleados.
