Dear NHUSD Families,
Many in our community are very interested in the renaming process for Cesar Chavez Middle School. Our Board of Education set the process on August 11, 2026, and you can find the board-approved process on our website using the following link: Board-Approved Renaming Process. The first part of the process ended today with the closing of the survey to solicit name suggestions and to take applications from those interested in serving on the renaming committee. The committee will be selected next week, and the first committee meeting is scheduled for September 30. The committee will share a report with the Board of Education at the October 6 meeting.
Latinx Heritage Month officially began on September 15 and runs through October 15. Our Board of Education passed a resolution recognizing Latinx Heritage Month at our August meeting, which you can find here. Latinx students make up approximately 36% of our student body and play an integral role in our district. Our district and the region we live in would not be what it is today without the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of the Latinx members of our NHUSD community.

Muchas personas de nuestra comunidad están muy interesadas en el proceso de cambio de nombre de la Secundaria César Chávez. El Consejo de Educación estableció el proceso el 11 de agosto de 2026 y puede consultar el proceso aprobado por el Consejo en nuestro sitio web usando el enlace siguiente: Proceso de cambio de nombre aprobado por el Consejo. La primera parte del proceso concluyó hoy con el cierre de la encuesta para recabar sugerencias de nombres y recibir solicitudes de quienes estén interesados en formar parte del comité para el cambio de nombre.
