Hello Everyone,
We are very excited to welcome all of you to the 2021-22 school year. Next week we will take another giant step towards normalcy when we welcome our students back to our campuses on Wednesday, August 11.
Students returning to classrooms does not mean that things will be exactly like they were before the pandemic. Hopefully, they won’t be. We have learned a lot over the past year and a half, and if we apply what we learned to the regular classroom settings, your students will be learning in more innovative, creative, and inclusive environments.
We have adopted a theme for this year that embraces these changes which is, “Creating new opportunities for excellence.” As we enter into the second year of our strategic plan, this theme also represents the work we will be doing related to the goals in this plan.
While we are excited about having our students return, I know many of you are understandably apprehensive about sending your children back to school. The pandemic appears to be far from over and this apprehension will probably continue until there is a vaccine readily available for students under 12 and/or the pandemic is over.
We will keep our families informed as we learn about vaccination options and if you need help finding a way to become vaccinated, please let your school staff know.
I can assure you that we have done our best to make our schools as safe as they can be. Health officials across the country have learned a lot from schools that reopened last year.
Accordingly, we are following all of the local, state, and federal health requirements and implementing as many of the recommendations as we can.
For example, the California Department of Public Health requires masks to be worn indoors but not outdoors. So that is our requirement too. Our local health department, The Alameda County Public Health Department, doesn’t require outdoor masking either. They recommend that masks are worn outdoors during gatherings when possible. We are recommending the same.
We had a good trial run at opening our schools over the summer and we were able to successfully operate a summer program in June and July with over 3,000 students and staff members. We feel very prepared to welcome all of our students and staff back next week.
This doesn’t mean everything will be perfect; we will have students and staff members who test positive for COVID. However, we have had students and staff on our campuses in one capacity or another for over a year now – since July 2020 – and we have well-established practices in place to handle those situations when they occur.
We have learned to be quite adaptable and we know that things will change as the school year progresses. And we will work through whatever comes our way and do what is best for our students, staff and families.
For families who do not feel comfortable sending their students back to school yet, we have our Personalized Learning Academy (PLA), one of our independent studies programs. For more information about this program, please visit the enrollment page on our website.
Whether you opt to enroll your students in our PLA or your students are returning in person, we are here to support our families.

Buenos días a todos,
Estoy muy entusiasmado de darles la bienvenida al año escolar 2021-22. La semana que viene daremos otro gran paso hacia la normalidad cuando recibamos a nuestros estudiantes de regreso a las escuelas el miércoles 11 de agosto.
El regreso de los estudiantes a los salones no significa que las cosas serán exactamente como lo eran antes de la pandemia. Esperemos que no lo sean. Hemos aprendido mucho durante el último año y medio, y si aplicamos lo aprendido a los salones regulares, sus hijos estarán aprendiendo en ambientes más innovadores, creativos e inclusivos.
Hemos adoptado un tema para este año que abarca estos cambios, el cual es “Crear oportunidades nuevas para la excelencia”. Al entrar en el segundo año de nuestro plan estratégico, este tema también representa el trabajo que haremos relativo a los objetivos de este plan.
Si bien estamos entusiasmados por el regreso de nuestros estudiantes, sé que muchos de ustedes están razonablemente preocupados por el regreso de sus hijos a la escuela. La pandemia parece estar lejos de terminar y esta preocupación probablemente continuará hasta que haya una vacuna disponible para los estudiantes menores de 12 años y/o la pandemia haya terminado. Puedo asegurarles que hemos hecho todo lo posible para que nuestras escuelas sean lo más seguras posible. Los oficiales de salud de todo el país han aprendido de las escuelas que reiniciaron sus actividades el año pasado y los procedimientos de seguridad que tenemos establecidos se basan en los requisitos y recomendaciones de los expertos de salud federales, estatales y locales.
Pudimos llevar a cabo exitosamente un programa de verano en junio y julio con más de 3,000 estudiantes y miembros del personal, y estamos muy preparados para dar la bienvenida a nuestros estudiantes y al personal la próxima semana. Esto no significa que todo será perfecto; tendremos estudiantes y miembros del personal que den positivo en las pruebas de COVID. Sin embargo, hemos tenido estudiantes y personal en nuestras escuelas desde julio de 2020 en una u otra capacidad y tenemos prácticas bien establecidas para manejar esas situaciones cuando se presentan.
Para las familias que no se sienten cómodas para enviar a sus hijos a la escuela todavía, tenemos nuestro programa de estudios independientes de la Academia de Aprendizaje Personalizado (PLA por sus siglas en inglés).
