A Message From Superintendent Thompson

Dear NHUSD Families,

I hope you all had a restful Spring Break. This is an important weekend for many of our families:  we are in the middle of Ramadan, Passover begins today, and it is Good Friday.  In addition, Easter is this Sunday, April 17. I hope you all have an opportunity to be with family and friends and enjoy a nice (hopefully!) spring weekend.

We have six weeks of school left in this school year, which is hard to believe. I am excited that we will be able to have a “normal” end of the year with most of our traditional end of the year activities happening in person. We are watching what is happening with the uptick in COVID-19 cases across the country, but the conditions in Alameda County, according to the Alameda County Public Health Department, seem to be fairly stable right now. I have heard from local districts who returned from Spring Break earlier than we did that they did not experience any significant increases in cases in their districts. That seems to be the case so far in our district as well, but we will have a better idea when we update our dashboard on Saturday.

In other COVID news, it was announced today that the earliest a vaccine mandate would be required in schools is July 1, 2023. This means that the COVID-19 vaccine will not be required of students and staff for the 2022-23 school year.

We have another episode of our “40 Questions With…” series to share with you. This week we feature the principal at Pioneer Elementary School, Jeanette Alday. Here it is: 40 Questions with Jeanette Alday

That’s it for this week. Have a great weekend.
