Dear New Haven Families,
On Friday, March 13, 2020, students and staff went home for the weekend without any idea that they would not be returning to class at our school sites for over a year. The thought that face masks would be required upon return was unfathomable at the time. Two years later, almost to the day, we find ourselves approaching normalcy with the elimination of the indoor face mask mandate on Saturday, March 12. I know that some of us do this with trepidation and concern after having lived through wave after wave of COVID-19 during the past two years. However, I have been impressed, proud, and thankful for the adaptability and resiliency that our staff, students, and families have shown over the past two years. I know that these traits will continue to help us move forward together. I am especially thankful for everything our teachers and other staff members have done to create the best possible learning environments for our students during possibly the two most difficult years ever for public education.
Starting Monday, students and staff members will no longer be required to wear masks indoors in our schools. For those that want more information about the guidance we are using, it can be found on the California Department of Public Health Website here. Per this guidance, we will be strongly recommending that all staff and students continue to wear masks indoors. We are also starting a Frequently Asked Question document that can be found here. This document will be updated as we receive new questions and information.
In another step toward normalcy, James Logan High School hosted the return of the Superintendent’s Honor Roll event. Students who maintained a cumulative 4.0 grade point average were invited to attend. There are currently 701 students at James Logan that have achieved this impressive accomplishment!
In more somber news, we are shocked and saddened by the events occurring in Ukraine. We are not aware of any members of the NHUSD community that are directly affected by this terrible situation. However, if you or someone you know is impacted by these events, please let your school site know. We have resources that may be able to assist those in need during this difficult time.
Finally, don’t forget to set your clocks ahead one hour this weekend for what is always the shortest weekend of the year.

Estimadas familias de New Haven,
El viernes 13 de marzo de 2020, los estudiantes y el personal se fueron a casa para el fin de semana sin idea de que no regresarían a clases en nuestros planteles escolares por más de un año. La idea de que se requerirían cubrebocas a su regreso era inconcebible en ese momento. Dos años más tarde, casi hasta el día de hoy, nos acercamos a la normalidad con la eliminación del mandato del uso de cubrebocas el sábado 12 de marzo. Sé que algunos de nosotros lo hacemos con inquietud y preocupación después de haber vivido una ronda tras otra de COVID-19 durante los dos últimos años. Sin embargo, estoy impresionado, orgulloso y agradecido por la capacidad de adaptación y la resistencia que nuestro personal, estudiantes y familias han demostrado en los últimos dos años. Sé que estas características seguirán ayudándonos a avanzar juntos. Estoy especialmente agradecido por todo lo que nuestros maestros y otros miembros del personal han hecho para crear el mejor ambiente de aprendizaje posible para nuestros estudiantes durante, posiblemente, los dos años más difíciles para la educación pública.

De acuerdo con esta guía, recomendamos enfáticamente que el personal y los estudiantes continúen usando cubrebocas en lugares cerrados. En otro paso hacia la normalidad, la Preparatoria James Logan organizó nuevamente el evento de la Lista de Honor del Superintendente. Los estudiantes que mantuvieron un promedio acumulativo de 4.0 fueron invitados a asistir. Actualmente hay 701 estudiantes de James Logan que han logrado este impresionante logro.
En noticias más preocupantes, estamos consternados y tristes por los eventos que ocurren en Ucrania. No sabemos de ningún miembro de la comunidad de NHUSD que esté directamente afectado por esta terrible situación.
