Class Title:
HVAC Technician
PRIMARY FUNCTION
Under minimal supervision, repairs, overhauls, replaces, installs, and services various air condition, refrigeration, ventilation, and related equipment and appurtenances at a minimum of journeyman level skill; coordinates the work of other district personnel in the area of HVAC-related work and preventative maintenance; assists in the coordination of contract work with outside contractors; and does related work as required consistent with the job description.

Directly responsible to designated administrators.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Diagnoses field problems
- Repairs, overhauls and installs air condition, refrigeration, heat exchangers, ventilation, and related equipment and appurtenances, including compressors, coils, fans, standards controls, and EMS control systems
- Maintains and recharges multiple types of HVAC units throughout the district
- Lifts and carries heavy objects
- Orders parts and supplies
- Makes estimates for time and materials for assigned jobs
- Observes and follows current regulations pertaining to the HVAC trade
- Makes written and oral reports
- Works on electrical wiring and fixtures
- Repairs kitchen equipment; overhauls and repairs boilers, swimming pool heaters and filters
- Performs welding, soldering, and brazing
- Coordinates the work of other maintenance staff
- Keeps supervisor informed of the work performed by assigned employees
- Assists in other skilled and semi-skilled areas and performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Three (3) years of journeyman-level field experience in the air conditioning and refrigeration trade, including controls and various appurtenances.
- Completion of two (2) years of technical training in air conditioning and refrigeration may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.
- Must also pass qualifying tests.
LICENSE
- Must possess and maintain a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License; EPA Certification of Type I and II.
