Support Services Technician

PRIMARY FUNCTION

Under general supervision, to perform a wide variety of tasks and execute complex and responsible clerical work of more than average difficulty in an office or school; and to do related work as required, consistent with job description.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Directly responsible to designated administrators.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Performs a wide variety of complex clerical work, including the personal performance or supervision of typing, checking, and recording information
  • Compiling information for and preparing reports, computing statistical data, and maintaining file systems
  • Prepares student information related to attendance and enrollment for data entry and student records
  • Performs data entry relating to the scheduling process
  • Assists counselors with pre registration; verifies attendance
  • Enters transcript data
  • Enters pass system data
  • Documents referrals and counselor intervention
  • Provides information and assistance to district personnel regarding services provided by the department or school
  • Receives office visitors in person or over the telephone and either answers questions concerning the department’s activities or refers persons to another source of information
  • May compose either letters or memos independently or from oral instructions
  • Compiles and prepares reports and master copies
  • Operates a computer terminal and utilizes the various programs available
  • Operates typewriter, copying and duplicating machines. and school communication equipment
  • Assigns and review work of student helpers.

  • Terminology, processes and operations of assigned office or program.

  • Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.

  • Applicable laws, codes, rules and regulations.

  • Basic budgeting practices regarding monitoring and control.
  • Basic math.
  • Proper methods of storing equipment, materials and supplies.

  • Answer telephones and greet the public courteously.
  • Maintain records, logs and files.
  • Learn principles of training and providing work direction and guidance to others.
  • Compile, assemble, verify and prepare data for records and reports.
  • Determine appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines.
  • Compose correspondence and written materials independently.
  • Work independently with little direction.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Meet schedules and time lines. Plan and organize work.
  • Add, subtract, multiply and divide quickly and accurately.
  • Operate a variety of office equipment including a computer and assigned software.
  • Be able to multitask. Maintain consistent, punctual and regular attendance.
  • Move hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard.
  • Hear and speak to exchange information in person and on the telephone.
  • Sit or stand for extended periods of time. See to read a variety of materials.
  • Bend at the waist, kneel or crouch to file materials.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Type at a rate of fifty (35) words per minute from ordinary transcript or printed or typewritten material
  • Pass qualifying tests.

EXPERIENCE

Two (2) years of varied clerical work of a responsible nature.
