English Language Development standards adopted by the California State Board of Education
CA ELD Standards are unique in that they correspond with the rigorous California Common Core State Standards: English Language Arts and Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science, and Technical Subjects. The CA ELD Standards define the progression of language acquisition through three stages of proficiency and recognize that the student’s native language plays an important role in learning English. Teachers can use the CA ELD Standards document as a tool to inform their practice, making clear relationships between the English language and the student’s other language(s).
