New Haven Unified Parent Groups

Community Outreach, Engagement, and Advocacy is Goal 4 of our Strategic Plan.  The New Haven Unified School District wishes to ensure that families and community members are engaged and informed partners in our students’ educational experiences and outcomes.  Community engagement and participation in decision-making is critical to ensuring that we are meeting the needs of our students and families.  To that end, New Haven has a number of district-wide parent groups that provide input on issues and initiatives that impact our students.  In addition, school sites offer numerous avenues for participation and input.

Our District Level Parent Groups

New Haven Equity Council The New Haven Equity Council began as a group of students, teachers, administrators and community members, many of whom began working together in May 2009, to identify and recommend ways that the District can be a more equitable place for all.
District African American Advisory (D3A) The District African American Advisory (D3A)'s purpose is to create systematic processes to prepare African American students for a required A-G path to college and incorporate practices that support the purpose into the operation of ALL school sites.
Latino Parent Advisory The Latino Parent Advisory is a space where Latino parents and school community members can collaborate to support our Latino students with actions that will enrich their academic and personal excellence within the New Haven Unified School District and the community.
District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC) DELAC is an advisory committee composed of representatives from each school's English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC). Each district with 51 or more English learners, regardless of language, must form a functioning district English Learner Committee (DELAC) or subcommittee of an existing district-wide advisory committee. The majority of DELAC members must be parents or guardians of English learners not employed by the school district. DELAC advises New Haven Unified School District on policies, programs, and services for English Learners.
Pilipino American Society for Education (PASE) The mission of PASE is to act as a liaison between the Filipinx community, its students and the New Haven Unified School District, thereby promoting success among the Filipinx population of students throughout the district. Through utilization of community agencies and other available resources, PASE will meet the various needs of Filipinx students. Such services will include the promotion of cultural awareness, an enriched curriculum, parental involvement, healthy lifestyles, and higher education. PASE will strive to increase the visibility of role models, address Filipinx issues, and empower Filipinx students physically, emotionally, and intellectually. Punjabi Parent Advisory The Punjabi Parent Advisory is a parent group for Punjabi students in New Haven Unified School District to come together and discuss issues, concerns and to collaborate.
