Mid August - Mid September:
Soliciting Committee Members and School Names
- Solicit Applications for the Facility Names Committee (“Committee”): An online survey and in-person opportunity will be provided for submissions from those interested in participating on the Committee.
- Solicit School Names: An online survey and in-person opportunity will be provided for those interested in submitting names for CCMS to review for consideration by the Committee.
- Notice of these opportunities will be provided through all normal social media and District communication methods. In addition, a mailer will be sent to every household in NHUSD attendance areas. Interested parties can complete the online links provided or by completing forms available at all school sites and offices.
Mid to Late September:
Committee Selection and Notification
- The 13-member Committee will include 2 CCMS parents, 3 CCMS staff members, 2 students, 3 parents representing our parent groups (D3A, Punjabi Advisory, and Latino Advisory), 2 community members, and the CCMS principal. The Committee will be chaired by a non-voting district administrator.
- A subcommittee of district administrators and two school board members will select Committee members. All school board members will have the opportunity to review the applicants and make recommendations to the subcommittee.
- The subcommittee will select members to fill the Committee openings described in #1, using the criteria in Board Policy 7010. The goal is to create a Committee with representation from within the CCMS community and across the NHUSD community.
Mid to Late September:
Committee Meetings Begin
The Committee begins meeting. The Committee will:

- Develop draft criteria and a process for reviewing possible names to replace Cesar Chavez.
- Develop a calendar of future meeting dates. The calendar shall include a Community Forum - Special Board Meeting on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, and dates after the Community Forum so that the Committee can take feedback from the community and Board of Education, then continue its work.
- Begin reviewing names submitted to replace Cesar Chavez, review the Board-approved process, and develop a calendar of future meeting dates.
- Prepare to present at the October 6, 2026, meeting of the NHUSD Board of Education.
October 6:
School Board Meeting: Committee Presentation
During this meeting, a Committee representative will:

- Share progress to date.
- Share the draft criteria and process they are recommending for name selection.
- Receive feedback and direction from the Board of Education
The Committee shall adjust the criteria and process for recommending names to the Board of Education accordingly.
October 27, 6:00 p.m.:
Community Forum - Special Board Meeting
The purpose of the Community Forum is:

- To allow the Board to hear from the Committee.
- To listen to public comment.
- To provide direction to the Committee on additional steps or information needed to ensure that "thorough study" has been completed before the Committee recommends names to the Board.
November - January:
Committee Meetings
Committee meets to review Board feedback and direction. The Committee will plan additional meetings and steps accordingly.
January - February:
Board Meeting Presentation
Depending on the steps the Committee needs to take, an agenda item will be added to a board meeting during this period for the Committee to recommend "not more than three names" to the Board for consideration. The Board will select one name from the recommendations or direct the Committee on what actions must be taken to ensure that "thorough study" has been completed before the Committee makes another recommendation to the Board.
Additional Information:
- This process is guided by NHUSD Board Policy 7310: Naming of Facilities.
- The timelines and steps in the process may be adjusted based on recommendations from the Facilities Names Committee with approval from the NHUSD Board of Education, or by the Board of Education directly.
- Per Board Policy 7310, the Board of Education shall have the final decision on the name of the school site.
