Lesson Plan: The World of Haiku
In this lesson students will examine the history and poetic conventions of Japanese haiku, analyze classic examples of haiku, and create and share original haiku poems. There is also an extension to the lesson that compares and contrasts the art of Haiku with the art of Ukio-e woodblock prints.

In this packet, students will engage with Wofford’s mural, learn about different Asian cultures and identities, and celebrate Asian American artists from the San Francisco Bay Area. Britannica Kids - Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month - Middle School
Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month takes place each May in the United States. It is also sometimes called Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month. The monthlong commemoration honors Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander history and achievement. May was permanently designated AAPI Heritage Month in 1992.
