Dear NHUSD Families,
As the second week of the school year comes to a close, we are getting a better idea of our enrollment and staffing numbers. I am happy to report that we have hired teachers for all our classrooms except for a couple of vacancies that occurred at the start of the school year. We feel fortunate that we are not struggling to fill teacher vacancies like many other districts across Alameda County and the State. We are still looking to fill some vacant classified positions in a few areas such as for paraeducators. An important part of the beginning of every year is having parents complete the Parent Data Confirmation Process. Completing this process is important because it allows parents to review and update emergency contacts. Please complete this process as soon as possible if you haven’t done so already. Back-to-School Nights are coming. These are great opportunities to meet your student(s) teachers. Back-to-School Nights take place on the following dates: Elementary Schools – Wednesday, August 23, 5:00 p.m.; Middle Schools – Thursday, 8/31, 6:00 p.m.; and High Schools – CCHS, August 30, 6:00 p.m., and JLHS, September 7, 6:00 p.m.
While we had a great start to the year, we received very bad news before school started. We learned that one of our veteran teachers, Kellee Thomas, passed away. Ms. Thomas was a teacher at Cesar Chavez Middle School. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to her family, her friends, and our staff members who were close to her. CCMS is hosting a memorial honoring Ms. Thomas on Saturday, August 19, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Estimadas familias de NHUSD,
A medida que la segunda semana del año escolar llega a su fin, estamos teniendo una mejor idea de nuestros números de inscripción y dotación de personal. Estoy contento de reportar que hemos contratado maestros para todos nuestros salones excepto para un par de vacantes que ocurrieron al principio del año escolar. Nos sentimos afortunados de no batallar para llenar las vacantes de maestros como muchos otros distritos en todo el condado de Alameda y del Estado. Todavía estamos buscando llenar algunas vacantes de puestos clasificados en algunas áreas, tales como ayudantes de maestros. Una parte importante del inicio de cada año es que los padres completen el Proceso de Confirmación de Datos de Padres. Se acercan los eventos de Regreso a Clases. Estas son grandes oportunidades para conocer a los maestros de su hijo(a). Estos eventos tendrán lugar en las siguientes fechas: Escuelas Primarias – Miércoles 23 de agosto a las 5:00 p.m.; Escuelas Secundarias – Jueves 31 de agosto a las 6:00 p.m.; y Escuelas Preparatorias – CCHS, 30 de agosto a las 6:00 p.m., y JLHS, 7 de septiembre a las 6:00 p.m.
Aunque tuvimos un gran comienzo de año, recibimos muy malas noticias antes de comenzar las clases. Nos enteramos que una de nuestras maestras veteranas, Kellee Thomas, falleció. La Srita. Thomas era maestra de la Secundaria César Chávez. Nuestros pensamientos y más profundas condolencias están con su familia, sus amigos y los miembros de nuestro personal que estaban cerca de ella. CCMS está organizando un servicio conmemorativo en honor a la Srita. Thomas el sábado 19 de agosto de 11:00 a.m. a 1:00 p.m.
