Dear NHUSD Families,
It’s official – Shamsa Rafay and Shruti Kumar are our two newest board members. They were sworn in at our meeting on Tuesday night and took part in their first official meeting. We are all looking forward to working with them in their new roles.
Next week will be a busy week for our schools, students, and families. Our schools will be hosting a variety of different performances and holiday events, and our high school students will be taking their first semester finals. As a parent, I know that students will not want to miss the events and activities taking place next week, and that you may be tempted to send students who are not feeling well to school. Please do not do this. While I understand this temptation, we are trying to do everything we can do to minimize the impacts of flu, RSV, and COVID, and the single best way to do this is for people who are exhibiting symptoms of illness to stay at home.
One of the holiday-related events taking place next week is the Kwanzaa event that is being organized by the our District African American Advisory (D3A), with help from the New Haven Schools’ Foundation. This event will take place on Tuesday, December 13 at 4:30 p.m. The event will be held in our Educational Services Center. You can learn more about this event and RSVP to attend by using this LINK.

Estimadas familias de NHUSD,
Es oficial – Shamsa Rafay y Shruti Kumar son nuestros dos nuevos miembros del Consejo. Tomaron juramento en nuestra reunión el martes por la noche y participaron en su primera reunión oficial. Estamos deseando trabajar con ellas en sus nuevas funciones.
La próxima semana será una semana muy ocupada para nuestras escuelas, estudiantes y familias. Nuestras escuelas serán anfitrionas de una variedad de representaciones diferentes y eventos festivos y nuestros estudiantes de preparatoria estarán tomando sus exámenes finales del primer semestre. Como padre de familia, sé que los estudiantes no querrán perderse los eventos y actividades que tendrán lugar la próxima semana y que usted puede tener la tentación de enviar a la escuela a estudiantes que no se sienten bien. Por favor, no lo hagan. Aunque comprendo esta tentación, estamos tratando de hacer todo lo posible para minimizar los efectos de la gripe, el VSR y el COVID y la mejor manera de hacerlo es que las personas que presenten síntomas de enfermedad se queden en casa.
Uno de los eventos relacionados con las fiestas que tendrá lugar la próxima semana es el evento Kwanzaa que está siendo organizado por nuestro Distrito Asesor Afroamericano (D3A), con la ayuda de la Fundación de Escuelas de New Haven.
