The New Haven Unified School District, the Fremont Unified School District, and the Newark Unified School District form the Mission Valley Special Education Local Plan Area (Mission Valley SELPA). Most of the students are served in their home districts. SELPA programs exist for seriously emotionally disturbed students. The practices and procedures of the SELPA can be found in the “Mission Valley Local Plan.”
The Mission Valley Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) is a multi-district SELPA, consisting of Fremont, Newark, and New Haven Unified School District. The Fremont School District serves as the administrative unit for the SELPA. The SELPA serves approximately 5,000 special education students. All SELPAs have the same basic goal: to deliver high quality special education programs and services to the students with disabilities in the most efficient and cost effective manner practicable. The practices and procedures of the SELPA can be found in the “Mission Valley Local Plan.”
The SELPA joins together to create a Community Advisory Committee (CAC). The CAC is designed to be a dynamic collaborative partnership of educators, parents, and community members to promote the education of children with special needs. The CAC sponsors events to highlight services available within the Tri-City community, to provide resources for families with children with special needs and to increase disability awareness. We welcome your participation and input into the special education process for all children with special needs. To find out more about SELPA activities click below.
